As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting scientific research and advancing the role of young scientists

As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting scientific research and advancing the role of young scientists, the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) has announced the winners of the 36th edition (2025) of the Jaber Al-Ahmad Award for Young Researchers. This prestigious award is considered one of the leading national initiatives dedicated to recognizing outstanding Kuwaiti researchers and encouraging innovation and knowledge production.

The award is presented annually to Kuwaiti PhD (or its equivalent) holders in recognition of their distinguished contributions to their respective fields, underscoring the vital role of scientific research in promoting sustainable development and building a knowledge-based economy. This year’s edition covered six major scientific fields, reflecting the diversity and significance of research efforts in serving society.

In the field of engineering sciences, the award was granted to Dr. Yousef Saad Al-Qaheem, a researcher at the Petroleum Research Center of the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, in recognition of his contributions to developing applied engineering solutions that support the oil and gas sectors, enhancing operational efficiency and addressing technical challenges in this critical industry.

In the field of natural sciences and mathematics, the award was granted to Professor Dr. Yousef Abdullah Al-Khazi, in recognition of his pioneering research in mathematics, as well as his contributions to advancing the educational process, demonstrating the integration of academic research with educational practice.

In the field of social sciences and humanities, the award was granted to Dr. Aisha Ahmed Al-Azmi for her research contributions that help develop educational policies and improve the efficiency of educational systems—an area of growing importance amid the challenges facing modern education.

In the field of biological sciences, the award was granted to Prof. Hussein Mehdi Behbehani for his outstanding scientific contributions and advanced research, which contributed to expanding scientific knowledge and deepening understanding in the biological sciences.

Through this award, KFAS reaffirms its strong commitment to supporting Kuwaiti researchers and fostering an enabling environment for continued scientific excellence, ultimately contributing to societal progress and prosperity.

It is worth noting that the Jaber Al-Ahmad Award for Young Researchers was established in 1988 on the initiative of the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The award aims of recognizing young Kuwaiti scientists and encouraging excellence and innovation. It remains a leading national platform for celebrating promising scientific talent.
