Major achievements
The First International Dasman Diabetes Summit
- Under the patronage of the Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi, DDI hosted the first International Dasman Diabetes Summit, a landmark three-day event.
- The event welcomed more than 450 participants.
- This summit featured 21 distinguished experts, including 11 international, 3 regional, and 7 local speakers.
- They shared insights, showcased cutting-edge advances in diabetes care, and created a platform for global collaboration.
Research and Innovation
- In September 2025, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, DDI was awarded a United States patent for a novel test to diagnose obstructive sleep apnea, a condition strongly linked to type 2 diabetes with serious health complications.
- DDI research teams had published over 90 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals including Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, Diabetes Care, Nature Reviews Genetics, and Endocrine Reviews.
- Over 76% of these publications appeared in top-tier (Quartile 1) journals.
- Notably, more than 67% of the publications involved international collaborators and over 40% included national collaborations.

In addition, our researchers delivered over 80 oral and poster presentations at prestigious conferences such as the International Diabetes Federation World Diabetes Congress and the American Diabetes Association Scientific Sessions.
- Capacity Building and Training
- To further strengthen our role as a center of excellence, DDI scientists and medical professionals trained and mentored more than 45 university interns, ensuring capacity building in the next generation.
- During the first three quarters of 2025, the Institute delivered over 175 workshops and accredited training programs.
- Equipping healthcare professionals, educators, and individuals to better manage and prevent diabetes.
